unless hes taking advanced calc, i doubt they’re working with anything but real numbers. maybe algebra 3 or stat. besides, id be a smart ass and do something like (a+b)^n = x, log(base n)x = a+b, log(n)x-b = a. forgive me if im wrong, ive always haved logs…
