People go in the army to make money or because they are just forced. Nobody becomes a private for the greater cause.
I am also serving in the military, and I will state with complete certainty that I do not get to decide what wars are started or ended. I don’t get to make policy or change rules.
I don’t believe that serving in the military makes a person better than others. I do think your naive, ignorant and hostile statements make YOU worse than the average person. Perhaps experience and knowledge will improve the quality of your character someday. And I believe also that if Beast holds himself to such a high standard he should not be returning insults and doing so lessens him as well.
But, for the future, try to think of the implications (relative to the big picture) of not having a military. In society as it stands, military power is a necessity, but it is politicians that use power inappropriately.
unfortunately peace will, as humanity goes, mean being the one with the bigger stick.
I guess I’m ‘fortunate’ enough to view both perspectives. I’m a medical student, but also a mildant (serving through the military) which makes me an officer in training and very soon a lieutenant.
I like the military, but I like the fact too that we give others the chance to live their own lives and KEEP their views (no such bullshit as giving them a chance to speak- voting’s the best you get- hope congress does the rest for you!)
That’s just it, though. We certainly aren’t inherently any better than the people we SERVE, but the nobility of military isn’t just in the killing- it’s the purpose we serve by trying everything before killing to preserve a way of life. And maybe it’s not perfect, but it sure as hell is the best we get. And I think that deserves a bit more respect and consideration than most of you feel for it. Appreciation is changing the world for the better already, from both sides.

First of all, I meant to say that I’m free because I choose to be free. I don’t follow, I’m a leader. I’m not enslaved or brainwashed by the damn television. Our forefathers gave us freedom, but it is up to us as the people to maintain that freedom. We should have the ability to defend ourselves but it is being taken away. Is it just coincedence that american troops are being deployed into towns within our borders and more and more FEMA camps are popping up? And all this talk about martial law? I don’t think so. Also, there is NO LAW written stating that we MUST pay our taxes. There are many court cases where people have been charged with tax evasion but WON the case because they were able to prove that there is no law. A lot of IRS workers have quit their jobs after learning the truth. And no, I don’t wish to go to (you mean invade, right?) Iran or North Korea to “teach” their citizens how to live in a country where I don’t belong. That’s what the US is doing and has always done. Invaded other countries to “teach” their citizens about “democracy”. Well look where that gets them! I think America has the words “teach” and “kill” mixed up somehow!

Wesley Snipes didn’t fair too well, did he? My only issue with what you said previously, was your disrespect toward the men and women of our military. Those people have given up their own constitutional rights to protect ours. I have my own misgivings about the whole middle east thing and I don’t care to discuss it. And I personally enjoy the saying “Those that will not stand behind our troops can feel free to stand in front of them.” I wish that the so called proud American citizens of epicfail.com would get a fucking education and realize that without their political freedoms instituted by the various branches of the Military, they’d either be dead, or never would have existed. If it weren’t for the military, we would have never beat Hitler into submission, we would have never beat the Japanese (although i love the Japanese) after they bombed Pearl Harbor, and IF the Cold War had broken out into warfare, we wouldn’t have been remotely prepared for anything. Military includes all those scientists who build our nuclear defenses.

Our military is what is keeping our nation atop the list, our military is what gives other nations a sensation of fear and trust. Despite our recent economic recession, our economy continues to grow, and with that being said, we cannot let our freedoms and affairs go unprotected. Nearing the 10th year anniversary of 9/11, it is the duty of our nations civilians and military personnel to mourn those who lost their lives on the tragic day of September 11th, and those who have lost their lives serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting a “War on Terror” to preserve our rights as citizens.
@PGCWCO: I certainly respect your devotion to the military, I am not an actively serving member, but I have put some thought into enrolling at West Point. However, I must say that any “soon-to-be” soldier that enters boot camp with a grimy and distasteful attitude for those who you are serving will certainly be pushed around. I can almost guarantee that a soldier with a mentality like that, and suck indecency and disrespect will have their ass eaten by their drill instructor. I would recommend manning up and showing some reverence to those who have the right to voice their opinions. Every American is entitled to the aspects of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and your freedom must be protected by your military and respected politicians.
