I use the term “African-American” simply because “Africa” is not a country but a continent comprised of many small countries. Someone would be Nigerian, Egyptian, etc… the term “African” is very board… most people don’t refer to themselves as “European”… they say the actual country they are from. Being that I don’t know what country my ancestors came from… I refer to myself as “African-American“. I hope that clarifies why “African-American” is more politically correct for some than “African”.
On another note, I am really applauded and quite sad to see the amount of racism on this great website. Even though we are all hiding behind a computer, everything you say or do (whether it be online or not) you are representing yourself. Its sad how ignorant some people are. There is a big world out there and I advise many to get out there and meet new people of different cultures and ethnicities. You would really be surprised how different things are outside your “comfort zone”. Every “race” has their bad apples, but that doesn’t mean we should judge all based off those…. And the overrepresentation of “African-Americans” in the prison system… really? These racist comments alone should explain why that is… there is a disproportionate rate of imprisonment due to environmental inequalities… someone raised in an inner city is going to be subjected to environmental and governmental oppression… whether that be low taxes resulting in a poor education system… being raised by parents/family members with jobs… not careers, having the street mentality of “every man for himself”, etc. Lets me honest here…. “race” is a socially constructed word and really means nothing. There is no “race” gene… and nothing, but what others define you as makes “race”. So enough with the unintelligent posts because you’re bored… and lets just enjoy this website, have some laughs, and move on with our lives.

That being said; lets take a trip to the African nation….How are things going there? Entire villages being raped, the whole sell slaughter of women and children by the thousands; not by white people but, by their own race. Why is that? It appears they show the same tendencies for violence? Under develop intellectual capacity and over developed muscular structure? I would say it’s more like genetics and evolution or lack there of my friend; not where they grew up.
First off there is no such thing as a violent gene or what ever you are trying to argue. That does even scientifically make any sense! Do you know what a gene is? And to top it off you are basing your argument for a “violent gene” off of rape and murder? Hate to update you, but there are rapings and killings in every nation. In fact, you’ll probably find more rapings and killings in impoverish neighborhoods across the world…. Seeing a trend? Hmmm.. Maybe where you live does play a role? I work in a Title I school district and every child is the acts the same, has the same mentality, and is probably going to end up the same… both black and white. Just because you’ve watched a movie or two that portrays Africa like salvage uncivilized place doesn’t mean you have a clue as to what you are talking about (there are underdeveloped nations all over the world, with people of every skin color). There are developed parts of Africa as well.. guess what? There are even cities! Some regions of Africa (and in other parts of the world) are underdeveloped because of its terrain and agriculture. Its not profitable, so the natives have not been able to prosper and live off of what they can. Many nations are subject to geographical nightmares that don’t allow for them to grow and develop as a country. I graduated from college summa cum laude, top of my class. I’m now working in my Masters in Counseling and work for a great Non-profit Organization in Detroit. Guess what, I got here because I had a good education and was raised by intelligent people. I’m black, and there is not an ounce of violence or uncivilized nature in me. In fact, I can’t even kill a bug, I’m a vegetarian, and I’d be the first person to give someone in need everything I’ve got….simply because I was raised in a great neighborhood and I never had to fend for myself. And I know plenty of black, white, Spanish, Indian, Asian, etc. who are just like me. Again, open your eyes to the beauty this world has to offer. Don’t base everything off of tv and the news. Actually explore this world you claim to know so much about. Read a book or two. Meet new people of different ethnicities and races. You’ll be surprised how wrong you are. Travel the world. And lastly, please don’t make comments until you do the things listed above, because right now, you sound really uneducated and ignorant.
