In the past generations, kids were disciplined with the belt, a tiny tree branch (I myself had to go grab one and bring it to my dad so he can hit me with it) and stuff like that. No matter what country you lived in, 30-40 years ago, the same disciplines were used pretty much everywhere. And as far as I am concerned, I consider myself very normal, I was not a spoiled little kid, I learned the sense of responsibilities, I did not turn into a violent psychopath or whatever the “professionals” say these days how beating a kid will turn him into a violent person himself or whatever. My parents, grandparents, all the people I know, were raised with the same values and disciplines.
Today, kids have more rights than anyone else. They have everything they wish. Mom and dad pay for everything, you don’t have to worry about anything, just the minimum responsibilities. That is the reason why they are spoiled. Today, they have “new ways” of disciplining kids which, if we take a look at our present society, “do wonders”. You can’t yell at him, he threatens to go and talk to the police, corporal punishment (not talking about torture here or anything extreme) is not even worth thinking about. How the hell are you supposed to discipline your kid, put him back on the right track if he knows that nothing bad can happen to him if he does something bad? If police would not exist, imagine the criminals, imagine how people would drive on the streets. Same applies for the family. Someone has to be the authority that put a certain order in everyday life, otherwise we are no better than monkeys.
Kids have everything they want today, all the technology, and they are still not happy. Back in the time, we were happy if parents brought us a chocolate bar on their way back from work.
I remember back then we had to get up when the class teacher would enter the class room and say Good day, and wait for him to tell us that we can sit back. Girls, already at the age of 15-16 knew how to cook, wash dishes, do the laundry, name it. Today, all they care is how good looking they are on their Facebook pictures, who will comment it, how many “friends’ they got on their lists, etc. Where does that type of life lead?
Don’t get me wrong, I know some parents do a good job teaching them good values and their kids are not like that, but some kids are, regardless of the parents. Some kids turn out being just like this little girl, no matter how good or bad her parents taught her. I wish more Americans were like this guy. Shooting with a pistol is a little extreme, but he just had to take it out, which is understandable. She will thank him when she gets older, once she is smart enough to understand that all her parents wanted for her is good things.

Kids did chores, helped all around the house, had less technological gagdets that kids nowadays have, shit they still had tons of fun. this generation benefits from everything, they got cable, internet, console games, drivers license (which back then was not accessible as much to teens, same goes for the cars), their parents ask them a minimum of cooperation, they still are unhappy, find something to shittalk about, rebel against things that are not even opressing them in the first place, they try to be popular, spend time on facebook and similar timewasting stupidities, let aside school works, and so on and so forth, I could go on like this forever. Don’t get me wrong, I am refering to a majority here, exceptions exist everywhere. It is the image our society gives us everywhere, on TV, Internet, streets, name it.

I had 2 jobs, volunteered with the fire service, lived on my own, went to high school, and took college courses. I also graduated in 05. its just how I was raised. It’s doable when you have to do it. I didn’t have ideal living conditions then and I HAD to do it.

And I read some of your comments …. smacking your children? Are you nuts? Would you hit your friends if they misbehaved? Would you hit your wife or husband? How do you explain to your kids that it’s ok for you to hit them but not ok for them to hit you or any other human being for that matter? If you smack your kids it’s because you have no clue how to deal with them verbally. That’s your responsibility as a parent! Deal with it!
BTW I live in Denmark, Scandinavia. In my country it’s illegal to smack your children. Your can go to jail for it.

Congrats. I’m glad you don’t live in America. If you did, you would be one of the many “modern” parents who raise these hellraising children. Granted, I do understand that a lack of spanking is not the sole reason for a misbehaved child, however, it sure taught me a lot growing up. Now, to clarify, there is a GREAT difference between being abusive to your child, and spanking them. I was spanked with a hand or a belt many times, when I was very young. Trust that I didn’t do those things again. I understood the meaning of “being in trouble”. Grounding me was not an effective method. Why? Because grounding me didn’t do any good when I went to school the next day and used all the devices that I was told not to. It didn’t do any good when I had the chance to talk to and see my friends. Being grounded meant nothing. Getting a few good whacks on the backside left an impression. It was never done out of line, and I was always told prior to it happening that getting spanked was going to be the consequence. However, for those hard headed moments, I still did it and dealt with how the situation played out. My mother did not yell and curse at me while doing this, she cried. It showed me that the action was not being done out of anger, it was being done because I was given the opportunity, and I continued to misbehave. My mother was VERY good at communicating with me and I thank her every time that the topic comes up that she spanked me. & I’m sorry, but smacking asses is a common thing. Including your friends and ESPECIALLY your husband.

In some cases yes, where there is child abuse, but in terms of normal discipline it should not be applied. They know they can climb on your head and literally shit on it, and you won’t be able to do shit, and if you do YOU get punished, what a society. It is of people like you, mixed with problematic tendencies kids that today we don’t respect the elders, teachers are disrespected because they cannot punish kids anymore as well, no respect for authority since they don’t respect the first authority that is the parents. Ask your grand parents about it they will tell you that nothing beats the good old ass whooping.

I can only agree with him on the reaction and yes, it is a matter of principle. I had a step daughter in a past relationship and she stole and did anything to circumvent whatever basic rules there were and when she was caught via close circuit cameras she even then blamed anyone but herself.
And the excuse that people get in with the wrong crowd might be a good one, but at the end of the day parents are still parents. I had my run ins with my old folks, too, at that age, but there was always a fundamental respect towards adults when I was younger (and I was born in the 70s), and we certainly wouldn’t have done something like publicly going against our parents.
I would have glady done what this guy did and I bet putting those rounds through the laptop felt good. And I also think it’s good that he did destroy it, because otherwise she would have not given up asking for it. Ever.
Kudos is what I say. Kids need to be put into their place the way it really hurts. Not by physical violence or by constantly shouting at them, but how this guy did it; by publically humiliating them in front of their peers making them look like a whiny bitch instead of tough.

My mother spanked me, one time I dangled my little sister over a cliff when I was five, and my brother who was four, held her other hand, that was the worst spanking of my life and ya know something? The child is 15, and thus what belongs to her is hers; if someone decided to press suit against him for her they would have to wait until she was 18, but it could be done as that laptop was a “gift” and what is a gift is that person’s property. Believe it or not children can get whatever they want, parents willing to give them or not.

Funny how he said software was the upgrade, I kinda doubt there is something worth 130 bucks on his daughter’s laptop that isn’t on his own machine. Respect to this dude, I guess no matter how good the parent are and try to teach their child the right things it doesn’t necessarily work out. I believe that its harsh to see your child write something like that about you when you try to do everything that he would have the best life possible, and when you actually see that…that is the moment you snap and realize that you have been too soft on him/her all this long.

Ungrateful little kids nowadays, I admit i’m only 14 but I am disicplined and I respect my parents and other people who help me out through my life. Before I was a gaming nerd who never went out with my friends, and I used to not bothyer about school, until one day my mother turned around and said to me ‘Listen Kurt I know you won’t want to, but you need to get some work done, and go out some more’ Then after tat point I realised what my mother meant, and today I do an hour’s work of revision a night and on the weekends. I don’t have any little comebacks. I just do it because my Mother is trying to help me. And I did it with a smile on my face. Today I’m 14 years of age and I have already passed to GCSE’s with a C-grade. You won’t know how much you need your parents to help you and discilpine you untill they’re gone, so kids out there, you neec to respect your parents and listen to what they say. I do, and I did it with a smile on my face and you kids out there had better aswell. You can change your ways instead of being ignorant little shits. So do it now !
