this is sad, art of any magnitude should appreciated, and its a sad day when they are forever destroied. there is no bringing this back. i dont see the reasoning behind resoration of a piece. it should be appreciated in its orginal form. as soon as you touch it with a brush it became your work and not thiers. if you think its not up to par, then paint your own, and seal the orginal away. thats exactly what you are doing anyways, though instead of a blank canvas your painting over a 19th centery masterpiece. and burning the orginal. stop restoring, let our future generation have a chance to see them.
