Parenting fail. True, children should be taught to be gracious. That being said, even a well-parented child will at some point say something a parent wishes he hadn’t. This kid is old enough that it probably (in my opinion anyway) would have been more appropriate to talk to him about why it’s unkind to respond to a gift that way (how would YOU feel if you gave somebody something you thought was cool and they said that, or something to that effect) and then just leave it alone. This sort of thing is just going to create a LOT of resentment in that little boy. True I’m sure he’ll never forget it – but he won’t remember it in a positive, lesson-learning sort of way. And the fact that the parent would post something like that on Facebook of all things shows that the parent is in fact more concerned about how people view HER than about teaching a child a lesson. Although as I said this kid appears old enough to understand a lesson in empathy, he is still just a little guy, and kids just sometimes blurt out what they are thinking without considering all the angles – they’re KIDS. If the kid were an ungrateful teen or twenty-something (by which time he should have learned to consider the feelings of others before speaking) perhaps returning the gift might be appropriate. As someone who was raised by a mother who was OH so much more concerned about how she appeared to her church cronies (and everyone else) rather than about being a loving parent, I personally feel sorry for this little guy. Epic parenting fail.

Well said, as was fredzzkidd’s comment above. The original post of this on another site does not have the child’s face redacted. The look on the young mans face is heartbreaking. He is utterly humiliated and his horrified gaze is so upsetting as to instill in me a desire to thrash the parents in front of a gathering of their friends from church and then spit on them. This child’s friends are all going to see this petty act of self righteousness from his parents and will probably endure terrible bullying and humiliation on a daily basis for years to come. They may very well have just scarred this young boy for life just to make themselves feel like all powerful douchebags to impress a bunch of fucked up cunts who believe a rapist deity and his teachings of murder and genocide are a great way to model their morals after. this poor kid is going to be the laughing stock of his peers. If ever there were parents who deserved a public beating, these two are it.

Yea it might be a parents job to make their kid happy but it is just as important to make sure they are raised properly to be able to go out into the world.
