There are very few practical cooking applications that the microwave can perform better than other cooking techniques can. Very few.

That’s funny: Something similar once happened to me. The ramen noodles were obviously too hot (OR the plate was too cold). Some cheap plates just can’t take the stress caused by the high difference in temperature.
