    2. Oh, that’s Jos Verstappen in the gif though. Since I was just a kid back then I DO remember the incident but I didn’t remember who the second Benetton driver actually was – at first I thought it was either Giancarlo Fisichella or Johnny Herbert. Completely forgot about Verstappen though.

    1. He suffered only minor burns. Nothing serious. After Niki Lauda’s terrible accident, safety regulations had improved quite a lot already and they improved even further after this (actually minor) incident. Nevertheless it should be kept in mind that this was the same World Championship which also saw the death of Ayrton Senna, the last fatal accident in F1 racing. Guess you can say that 1994 was a helluva year for that sport.

  1. This was a Benneton sponsored car and I remember the headline in the paper – it read “The ignited colours of Benetton”… great headline!
