JALEEL WHITE (49) CLAIMS THIS ERA HAS NO IDENTITY
By EpicFail · September 2, 2026 · 1 min read
Jaleel White recently sat down with The Daily Beast and explained why he believes people still can’t get enough of the 1990s. According to White, the ‘90s were the last decade to have a truly recognizable identity, from the fashion and music to the way people lived and interacted. He argues that today’s era doesn’t have the same distinct cultural stamp. White pointed to life before smartphones and GPS as part of what made the decade different. If you made plans to meet a friend somewhere, you couldn’t simply text them when you were running late. You actually had to show up. He believes people are increasingly nostalgic for that simpler, less-connected way of life, helping turn ’90s culture into almost a genre of its own. White also discussed reaching an entirely new generation of fans who recognize him not only as Steve Urkel from Family Matters, but also through his work as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog.
