LEDELL LEE WAS EXECUTED IN 2017 DESPITE INSISTING HE WAS INNOCENT. NEW DNA EVIDENCE PROVES HE WAS INNOCENT

By Epic Fail·1 mo ago

Arkansas carried out the execution of Ledell Lee in 2017 for a 1993 murder, even as he maintained his innocence until the end. Years later, his attorneys were finally allowed to test DNA evidence from the case. The results showed that the DNA on the murder weapon did not belong to Lee. Instead, the genetic material found on the bloodstained wooden club matched an unidentified man. The same unknown DNA was also discovered on a shirt wrapped around the weapon, and most of the hairs collected at the scene were not linked to Lee. Before the execution, Lee’s legal team had pushed for this testing, but their request was denied. At the time, the state was expediting executions as its supply of lethal injection drugs neared expiration. Now, with support from organizations like the Innocence Project, his family is left with evidence that could have changed the outcome, but surfaced only after it was too late. The unidentified DNA profile has since been entered into a national database, where it remains in hopes of a future match.
